Bamboo works - 2018 onwards

In April 2018 I attended a masterclass bamboo workshop at Woodfordia and thoroughly enjoyed it - I came away needing to build something. I built a large large pear and apple and exhibited these at Sculpture on the Edge (SOTE), Maleny, September 2018.

Also attending the course was Sam Taylor of Project Fort Awesome who suggested we work together. Our first collaboration was Garden Clouds at Maroochy Botanic Gardens in January 2019 which showed three cubby houses and the documentation of the stages we followed to get there.

In April 2019 I conducted a workshop for children on building a large case-moth cocoon at Maroochy Botanic Gardens. I built the frame and the children added to it. The cocoon was 3 metres long and we suspended it 3 metres in the air.

In May 2019 Sam and I ran six workshops at Wood Expo, Maleny for people to build their own cubby house. The workshops went for three hours and starting from scratch, participants were able to take home their cubby house.

We built two towers called Look Up, Look Down for World Environment Day at Cotton Tree, Sunshine Coast in June 2019 and partially covered them. People were invited to continue covering them and write on a tag the things they are grateful for and attach their tag to a tower.

In September 2019 we installed Cloud Seeding at SWELL Sculpture Festival at Currumbin. We created five bamboo domes and covered them with colourful, recycled swim caps.

Floating Land is a biennial, environmental sculptural program run by Noosa Regional Gallery. We were commissioned to erect two spheres, one on the shore and one in the water at Lake Cootharaba, Boreen Point. The work was called Equidistant and was an exploration of differing perspectives. The spheres talked to each at night using Morse code.
